BROWN BERET CHAPTER EMERGES IN SALINAS
Contact: salinasbrownbberet@hotmail.com

A group of Salinas’s youth is activating a chapter of the Brown Berets to help deal with gang violence, discrimination and poverty. The Brown Berets have been active locally communities such as Watsonville and Fresno. The Brown Berets have been an important component of the Chicano/Chicana movement and have been instrumental in educating and inspiring youth to become politically active. With the recent rise of street violence and unemployment, it is critical to create healthy and positive alternatives for youth. The Salinas Brown Beret Autonomous Chapter will have its first meeting in Salinas this Monday. The meeting is open to anyone who wants to work towards social justice.

Date: March 23, 2009
