I was an elementary bilingual teacher with PVUSD for 25 years. Then the district moved me from 1st grade bilingual to 3rd grade bilingual in 2005. I had taught 1st grade for 25 years, was fully credentialed and hah a stroke a year before. The distriict knew it would be very difficult for me to change grades. I had a doctor's letter to prove this. They wanted me to retire to hire a younger, less expensive teacher. There were 2 first grade openings at my school.I applied for them I was never given an interview. Retired after three months due to stress and physiical weakness. I got the golden handshake and retired 2 or more years before I would have if I had been allowed to stay in first grade. The first grade job went to two substitute teachers. i was obviously the most qualified person for the job, the NCLB law states the most qualified teacher should get the job in a low income school. Not in PVUSD>

I'd like someone to contact me as soon as possible at tosca.2010[at]yahoo.com regarding a proposal to move in solidarity following a new paradigm. Ramiro, Jen... someone. I have been trying to set up a meeting in person. Best in solidarity, Ricardo X
