Brown Beret Code of Conduct
1. The primary purpose of the Brown Berets is service to our community. Although we work in solidarity with different organizations and on a variety of issues, our primary focus is our locality. All members will strive for the improvement of our community and society and fight oppression on all levels. All members will help in all organizational events and functions.
2. It is the duty of every Brown Beret member to strictly observe, practice, and educate each other about our philosophy and goals. Education is one of our primary concerns.
3. Drugs and alcohol are not permitted by any member at any Brown Beret function or event. Any community member under the influence of alcohol or illicit drugs will be asked to leave our meetings and return when sober.
4. No Brown Beret member shall divulge information about another Brown Beret or internal organizational business.
5. All members will conduct themselves with absolute respect and professionalism when dealing with themselves, each other, and the public. The eyes of the community and adversaries are constantly on us, so we must be aware of our actions and comments. All berets will support each other at all times with the highest form of carnalismo/a.
6. There will be no gossip or rumors spread about any active member. Any grievances, discrepancies, or personal disagreements should be brought to the table (organization) to be discussed and worked out in a professional manner.
7. Absolute equality. There will be no hierarchy, our positions of responsibility are for the service of the whole organization and are shared equally between female and male Brown Beret members. There will be no machismo (sexism), egocentricity, ageism, or racism within our organization. Sexual harassment will not be tolerated.
8. Membership is open to anyone regardless of age, race, gender, or sexual preference. (however, guidelines will be set for membership).
9. No Brown Beret will speak on behalf of the organization in public meetings without the consent of the organization (recruitment on personal levels is highly encouraged) All political action decisions will be made collectively and consensually.
10. All Brown Berets will respect and care for our Earth and all its creatures. We will not engage in pollution or any destruction of our environment.
11. We absolutely discourage our members from enlisting in the U.S. military. This institution has been used as a tool by the Power Elite for capital gain around the world. We believe youth should pursue the path of EDUCATION and LIBERATION, not destruction.
12. We will not utilize or instigate violence to achieve our goals, however, we reserve the right to defend ourselves by any means necessary.
13. Fail to adhere to our Brown Beret Code of Conduct will result in organizational hearings or disparagement from the organization. Any changes or questions regarding these codes should be addressed to the organization as a whole.
